Someone tells ChatGPT what they want to do. Your application can become the tool they use to get it done. For a software publisher, this is a new way to meet future users at the moment they express a need.
ChatGPT now has over one billion weekly active users, according to OpenAI. And DevDay on September 29, 2026 opens new possibilities for plugins. That scale makes this channel worth a closer look.
From discovery to use
Plugin extensions give products a place in the sidebar, interactive panels beside the conversation and file viewers. Availability depends on the platform and plan.
OpenAI also announces simpler creation and discovery, with Plugin Creator, a revised submission process and better recommendations.
For an existing application, a plugin version can introduce a service, solve an initial need, then lead to the full application when the task calls for it. The user starts with a task before they even know your brand.
Our bet on complete apps inside ChatGPT
We believe some products will go further. Their main use could take place inside ChatGPT, with a dedicated interface and actions on the user's data. Comparing options, preparing a document or tracking a case could become complete workflows within the plugin.
This is how we see the next App Store moment. A new platform changes how software is distributed, then what products can be built on it. Some apps will be designed for ChatGPT from the start.
Autonomy here means being able to finish a task in place. The product still depends on OpenAI's rules and distribution.
Two plugin versions in development at Appik
At Appik Studio, we are currently developing plugin versions of two applications. We treat this format as a product, with a useful workflow from the first interaction.
OpenAI's guidelines require value in its own right: a plugin cannot primarily be an advertising vehicle. A huge audience creates an opportunity. It does not guarantee adoption.
The first decision is concrete: what task can your app let someone finish inside ChatGPT? Let's discuss your plugin version.
